Remembering the days when we hacked BzFlag client to achieve super-tank powers…ok, it was my contribute to trolling tradition.
It’s even more enjoable now, and there’s even less trolling around.
Basically you drive a tank, and gotta take out other guys. Depending on the arena, you are allowed to jump.
I know, tanks don’t jump, but jumping and turning in mid-air is definitely a blast.
You have a full set of weapons, but to use them you have to find the right flag…

Back in 1989, roughly at the same time I had my first PC (one event that would mark my subsequent life) I was reading in my county house “Le scienze” (the italian Scientific America edition) and the introduction of a Pulsar astronomical article had a little poem in it.
It was “Brilla Brilla mia stellina…”. I already had a telescope and was deeply impressed by the wonders of Sky. I still remember the little poem, as I managed to learn it by heart, and it also marked my life in a twisted way.
Years later, I didn’t become an astronomer, nor I did become a scientist, but I still remember the old little poem. Thanks to the net I also found the original, untraslated version.

Heise-online.co.uk is reporting another sad-sad-sad XOR Story. It seems that some usb biometric pendrives are relying on the pc’software to unlock the safe partition, instead of bothering inside the chip itself.

It seems that a simple open source utility, PLscsi, will unlock the safe partition, without superglue and latex biometric hacks.
“…You do not need to use superglue and latex to forge fingerprints if you want to access the data “protected” on these sticks from **** and ****”
and finally:
“Conclusion: The fingerprint sensors in the products mentioned above apparently only serve one purpose: they mislead interested buyers. “
I don’t understand the point of these Snakeoils sellers. Nowadays, these tricks don’t stay covered for a long time. Sometime someone will find out and verbose it. And personally, I would never buy again from a company that resorts to these ugly commercial tricks, so it’s all-loss, on my opinion.

First of all read the not-so-QuickStart page from Hibernate.org. Update: another good source of info is Baccus.
After spending an half-a-day to make it work, I collected here some issues and fixes.
As you can read in the comments in the same page, the QuickStart tutorial doesn’t work out of the box. I think there are different issues: the main one is that probably it’s a bit outdated vs the current NHibernate version. But the comments in that page are indeed very useful. If you have problem running the Quickstart, have a look there. Credit for many solutions goes to the guys that posted their fixes on that page.

Non e’ necessario inserire user e password, quelli presenti sono placeholder ma necessari, non c’e’ bisogno di modificarli.

Thanks to this post I finally discovered how to boot my Toshiba M30 from Usb sticks.
With the USB stick attached, simply go to the BIOS and it will be presented under Hard disks (not under removable devices…). Change the order, and it will boot.

You may think you payed less and still got AES, and what you got was the old’and safe (pun intended) XOR.
It reminds me of another XOR story so much, that I’m starting collecting it.

UPDATE: truecrypt-5.1a-ubuntu-x64 is now available from truecrypt.com so there’s no apparent need to compile your own amd64 deb (unless you’re so paranoid, of course).
I can confirm that Truecrypt 5.0a compiles and works on Ubuntu Amd64 Feisty fawn (7.04) using Heinzelotto 64 bit patch for Truecrypt 5.0 and wxWidgets 2.6.7.
No problems with ld neither this time.
buliwoof: are you on Ubuntu? It seems to me we’re not using the same ld version or yours lacks some options.
Please check you have ld version 2.17.50 20070103 or newer.

Oggi ho letto prevalentemente il QUARTO PROTOCOLLO (the fourth protocol), trovandolo veramente geniale e originale (salvo qualche sezione leggermente prolissa).
I finally fixed the remain issue with the missing flash plugin on my amd64 base pc running ubuntu 7.04 Feisty.
I don’t want to upgrade right now, and swf-player wasn’t working for me.
I decided to follow the steps outlined here (in Italian, and it’s a wiki, so I’m not responsible for what you may found there!)

Looking at the logs, there are various explanations for this issue. My was a little more stranger than usual: Flickr would say failed, while Wordpress would correctly show the test post.
I found my solution looking at the logs.

The solution was simple; just add this line to your .htaccess file (assuming your can access it)
php_value memory_limit XX000000
where XX you can put your reasonable amount of memory (those are bytes).
Maybe you can tweak it raising it step by step. Simply writing down a large amount is not very healthy.
Anyway, 99% it’s your side fault, not Flickr fault.
Apple and the war against the user-replaceable battery

Apple has to be the most high-profile hardware manufacturer on the planet. Whatever it is that comes out of Cupertino is instantly put under intense scrutiny, and as a rule pundits are divided - some love Apple products, while others hate them. Me, I feel divided. Some Apple products fit in with my lifestyle perfectly, while others just don’t light my fire. But one design aspect of Apple’s latest product offerings bothers me greatly - and that’s the gradual eradication of the user-replaceable battery.
I’m not against Microsoft, I’m not against Google, and I don’t work for them.
Google, is not going to come and rescue anyone but itself. Nor the poor Yahoo,neither the poor Flickr users.
Flickr powered by Vista(tm) is not pleasant. I can see that.
Going against Microsoft is not unreasonable, may sound very cool, but it’s starting to feel very common-place and old-fashioned.
The biggest problem, the way I see it, is not Microsoft buying Yahoo.
There’s no Good Company in this story, so our chances of a pretty ending are scarce.
Information, time has teached us, is valuable as much as you can find it when you need it.
Whoever has the search engine monopoly has the power to present the information the way he likes, and if it likes to.
Whoever buys Yahoo, will get a positive advantage against other search engine.
Maybe Microsoft buying Yahoo is not the scariest scenario.
What if…
And that’s very scary, way much more than Flickr being powered by Windows CE.
Maybe it’s not time to stand for Flickr, but time to go against anyone who gets the total monopoly of search engines. The World and the Internet we wish and we used to know may be much more important that our bunch of photos.

In the last two days I’ve been receiving spam
This guy was always complaining about headaches. He would constantly be pounding his head into his fist and whimper to me that he felt like his head would split open. He took pain killers all the time, and for a long duration was addicted to a certain prescription pain medication. But none of that helped because as soon as the medication started to wear off, the pain would come right back again.
Finally, I had had enough of his complaining. I told him to stop pounding his head with his fist. Whaddayano! His headaches went away in a day.
Moral of the story: Don’t try to find workarounds for your problem. Fix the problem.
